History

The first mention of the ‘Vill of Wynyard’ was in 1157 where ownership was given to the family Chapel or Capella.

The land passed through the family and was held in a dispute in 1237 between Hugh de Capella and Randolf de Fishburn. The land continues to be developed as a manorial seat throughout the 14th 15th 16th centuries passing through various families until the first half of the 17th century when Alexander Davison bought the estate lands as they were know.  In 1723 the estate was sold to George Vane who whose descendent Frances Anne Vane-Tempest married the 3rd marquis of Londonderry. The current house, Built 1822, rebuilt 1841 after fire, incorporates a late 18c mansion built by the Tempest Family and extends over 325 acres, contains several lakes.

The current estate and house was bought by Sir John Hall as a private residence in 1987 and land near to the A19 was later sold to Samsung who developed on the site a large production and distribution facility. The site in its current form was eventually bought, along with a further 500 acres of adjoining land to the present owners and has become Wynyard Park.
